Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the score 15, 30, 40?

This counting system comes from the French jeu de paume where a clock face was used. They moved forward 15 minutes for each point won: 15, 30, 45. The 45 was simplified to 40 for easier pronunciation.

What is a tie-break?

The tie-break is a deciding game played when both players reach 6 games all in a set. The first to 7 points with a 2-point lead wins the set.

What is the difference between ATP and WTA?

ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) manages the men's professional tour, while WTA (Women's Tennis Association) oversees the women's professional tour.

What is the Grand Slam?

The Grand Slam consists of winning all four major tournaments (Australian Open, Roland-Garros, Wimbledon, US Open) in the same calendar year. Very few players have achieved this.
