League structure
The Iceland league system is organised into 6 tiered divisions, gathering 5,824 clubs. Each season the best go up and the bottom sides go down, decided by play-offs between teams from neighbouring divisions.
Honours by season
The champion is the club finishing first in the top division after the thirty matchdays of the season.
The national cup is a straight knockout over fifteen rounds. It starts in the sixth division, with higher divisions entering as the competition unfolds.

Champions League representatives
Each season the national champion and the national cup winner represent the country in the continental Champions League. When the same club wins both trophies, the cup runner-up inherits the second berth. Lower-ranked nations first play knockout preliminary rounds before reaching the group stage.
